Thinking Thin!

This is my journey through weight loss

I attribute some of the weight I gained to eating way too much while I was pregnant. Everyone would tell me, "Girl, you are pregnant.... you're eating for two! Get your EAT ON!" So, I did! Bad Idea! After I had my daughter in 2007, I was 20 lbs heavier than when I started. I thought I looked awful! Now I look back at pictures of me then and I wish I was still 155 lbs! It sure beats 193 lbs!

I breastfed my daughter and that helped a little with weight loss, but it wasn't enough. I was so unsatisfied about my weight that I stopped breastfeeding my daughter when she was 5 months to go on Slim quick... you know... 6 ways to help women lose weight. Yeah right, they should have called that 6 ways to make a woman go absolutely insane! Maybe it was a bad combination of postpartum depression and the Slim quick that made me fly off the handle and break a window (lol) or maybe it was the start of my hypoglycemia. Who knows. What I do know is that I never touched another diet pill/ supplement again.

After that my weight slowly went into a downward spiral. I went on an anti -depressant for my postpartum and gained some more weight. After I stopped taking that, I tried many low calorie/ low fat diets. I joined a gym... 2 year lease... another bad idea of mine. I now pay $60 a month for mine and my husband's membership and WE NEVER GO! I bought an exercise ball, yoga mat, and rented exercise DVDs from Netflix. I tried the South Beach Diet TWICE. That one would have worked if I could have gotten past the 2 weeks of no bread, no sugar, and no alcohol. I even tried the Master Cleanse diet (lemon juice, blackstrap molasses, and cayenne pepper...YUCK!)

I know that this regime that I'm working with now is going to work so much better for me simply because I AM NOT RESTRICTED! The gym didn't work because it was too far of a drive and it didn't work with my schedule. Diets never worked because I don't like to be told what I can and can't eat. That nasty lemon drink didnt work because it tasted like SHIT! With what I'm doing here, all I have to do is practice portion control. I can eat pretty much whatever I want. I try to limit my sweets until Saturday. That is my "pig out" day. I don't drink any wine until this day also (everyboday that knows me, knows that I LOVE WINE). I drink TONS of water to help my kidneys flush the toxins. This gives my liver the ease to do it's job... metabolize fat. I eat LOTS of fruit! It satisfies my sweet tooth and it's healthy. Veggies are also a big part on my menu.

I've grown an appreciation for walking. I love walking up and down our little road because it's right by a creek and there is lots of shade. There is a lot more scenery than a gym's four walls. I also have re-discovered my passion for riding a bike. I rode bikes all of the time when I was little. Now I get to share this experience with my son who has just learned to ride his bike!

I'm excited and look forward everyday to obtaining my goal of weight loss!

About Me

My photo
My name is Amanda. I am married with two children (a 2 year old and a 7 year old). I live in a small town in Kentucky, but I haven't lived here forever. I am originally from Memphis, Tennessee and before that I was born in Brandon, Florida. I am a stay at home mother and I go to a holistic health college online. I am about to start another school soon. I will be studying to be a medical transcriptionist. My husband and I co-own a business with his father. We rent out party supplies and games and we also go to festivals all around Kentucky and set up game booths for children. That's pretty much my life in a nutshell!

It's going to take some time and effort, but in the end, the rewards will be a healthy body, confidence, and a piece of mind. I hope that people will read my blog and be inspired to get started with their own weight loss endeavors.

This is me at 135 lbs before I got pregnant with my daughter 3 years ago.
